Tips in organizing financial papers:
- Set up a file just for receipts. Each day, place all your receipts from pockets, wallets, purses, etc. into this file. If you take a little extra time to mark relevant information it will save tons of time and stress trying to remember later. On a weekly or monthly basis, perform regular maintenance and file the receipts.
- Keep bookkeeping activities up-to-date. Create a categorized finance report of the year’s itemized expenses. This saves accounting costs and is easily carried out with computer money management software.
- For manual record-keeping, keep information on a spread sheet and put receipts into a categorized accordion file.

Cathy, I uses some of these very tips and it has become a very affective way to save me time and aggravation. The only other thing I would add is that I married an accountant if that doesn’t get your financial papers organized I don’t know what will. In particular automating our book keeping. Doug Belleville
You are telling me I cannot just continue to use a single folder with all of my papers and a rubber band around it? Haha. I am only kidding, Rachel. Thanks for the tips!
Julia, You could but not advised 🙂 have a productive day.
